1. Wake up well before your first class so you have time to eat a healthy breakfast - this way you will start off your day right and will not feel the urge to indulge in processed food snacks in order to stave off hunger.

2. Save your money and cook at home, or make a large amount of food and freeze it for later. This way you will always have quick and convenient food.

3. Keep track of how often you are going out to eat, and where you are going. The money - and the calories - add up quickly.

4. Get a membership at the UMD gym and work out frequently.

5.  Form a mental map of the healthy eating establishments on campus. A few to be aware of are:

The Maryland Food Co-op - Downstairs in the basement of Stamp student Union, this is a vegan- friendly organic eating establishment with good food and prices. It's motto is "Food for people, not for profit"

Salad Works: Upstairs in the Student Union food court, this restaurant offers many types of affordable healthy food options.

Moby Dick House of Kabob: In the food court next to Salad Works, this restaurant has mostly healthy options with lots of vegetables and well rounded meals.

Sweet Greens: This fast and convenient restaurant is located on route one in front of The View apartment building. This place offers great salads and more!
